August 17th: Cherry Pop

Sorry it has been ages since my last post, but I have been so busy with my big move and finishing up my house (more before and after pictures to come). Here is my outfit of the day, which i noticed, after putting it together, is completely thrifted. I would love to have a tv show, or magazine column, where I create outfits for people only shopping thrift stores and goodwills. As I get more and more experienced in shopping these treasure troves, I become more amazed at what great things you can find! Maybe I can give it a try on here and see how it goes! Until then here is my unintentional all-thrifted outfit:

I love red with a pop of turquoise. This red cotton dress is a great summer staple that you can accessorize many different ways, and its extremely comfortable on top of all that. I added the multicolored shoes which brought the two bright colors together. To top everything off I have to discuss my new favorite nailpolish, "minted", which is a light turquoisy-green made by revlon, and i think it looks great with just about everything, especially with a tan.

My First House: Decorating on a Budget

Hello everyone! I have been busy working at the house for the past week and am slowly moving furniture in and getting decorated! Here are some pictures of our study before and after:

Paint really makes all the difference when dealing with a dark room of wood paneling. I am absolutely in love with the turquoise color I chose for this room, and the painted paneling turned out even better than I imagined. Painting the trim and ceiling a fresh coat of white also makes a huge difference! I found the couch at the habitat store, which just happened to have a great vintage flower print with turquoise flowers that matched the wall perfectly. I also found a large shelf at the habitat store and painted it white to hold our printer, computer supplies, and books. I like that the shelf has all kinds of different shaped compartments that I can accessorize differently! Next, I added my album rack with record player, and a side table for the couch. Finally I added some wall decor and accessories! The couch is the most expensive thing in the room at around $100, but everything else is under $30!

Everyone should try to incorporate this summer's trend of tiny florals into some part of their wardrobe. The cutest mini floral prints are popping up all over from dress to skirts, purses, jewelry, and even shoes. They are easy to dress up, or to wear everyday, and the bright pastel colors add an element of fun to any outfit. I found this sweet floral dress at TJMaxx and loved the detailed tie on the back, and cute tiered bottom. It is very comfortable, especially when paired with my favorite vintage white leather flats, that helped make the dress look more casual. I added a simple gold heart necklace that matched the girly style of the dress, and a fun oversized pink flower ring from Forever21 that perfectly matched the flowers in the dress.

I'm obsessed with the latest trend of cropped tops and especially like the vintage tie-up ones. I loved the bright color of this one I found at Street Scene, and the ruching detail on the shoulders. The tiered jean skirt from target comes in all kinds of colors, and I have been able to wear this one with everything! The elastic waist makes it very comfortable, and it is a perfect length to dress up or down. I kept the accessories minimal with just a pair of large plastic retro flower earrings that matched the kelly green top. I wore some Old Navy cherries sandals that I still really love, even though I have had them for several years and don't get to wear them often.

This summer, my favorite black and white looks are light, airy, and playful with a retro flair.
